Snow King — Jackson, Wyoming, 1954

Beneath the towering slopes of Snow King Mountain, Jackson settles into a quiet winter evening in 1954. Snow drifts through the valley as storefronts along the town square cast their warm light onto the wet, frozen streets. Cars line the road, bundled pedestrians make their way between shops, and a mother and child cross through the glow—one small moment of everyday life preserved against the grandeur of the mountain beyond.

Snow King captures Jackson before it became the world-renowned destination it is today, when the town still carried the unmistakable character of a close-knit western community. The familiar signs of Jackson Mercantile, the Curio Shop, and the Trading Post speak to a Main Street built around neighbors, travelers, and the rugged life of the Tetons.

The contrast between the cool violet mountains and the golden storefronts gives the scene the feeling of a memory: cold air, falling snow, glowing windows, and the promise of warmth just inside.

Painted from the Jackson of 1954, Snow King is a tribute to the ordinary moments that become part of a town’s history—a glimpse back at a winter evening when Jackson moved a little slower beneath the mountain that has watched over it for generations.
